"The Earth Laughs in Flowers."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
The sight of flowers never fail to cheer me and brighten my day and since this is the only way to bring them to you, I have photographed some flowers. I hope that these early spring flowers warm the cockles of your heart. Somehow, a flower always speaks to me of love, beauty, kindness and all that is fair. I can look at them and be lost in their beautiful world of color, fragrance, purity and selflessness. Flowers remind me of life, one moment here and in the next plucked away to grace a table. Or just left on the plant to live a life of fullness. Whatever may be the destiny of the flower, it never fails to give joy. Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. I hope you see it and enjoy it, as I did just putting this hub up for you.
Perfumes are the feelings of flowers. - Heinrich Heiney
I would like to name this special photo of mine as the 'Beauty and the beast'. I had to try many times to get this shot right. The beautiful bud is waiting to open and there is war already over it. The praying mantis has got the bee that made a bid, for the bud. Beauty and beasts coexist and that is indeed the law of nature and the way life pans out. I am glad to have got the beauty of it all. My cup is always full and overflowing. I am happy to be - despite the odds.
If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom. - Terri Guillemets
Being thrilled to the very edges of my soul, was what this bunch of orchids did to me. These creamy green orchids, with hearts of red made such a picture, that I melted within me. My love for orchids has a reached a fever pitch with every effort to grow them ending in disaster. I never give up, some day I will have orchids like these in my garden.
"Flowers leave some of their fragrance in the hand that bestows them." - Chinese proverb
This wild 'Potato tree' (Solanum wrightii) as it is called, is a show stopper in full bloom. The flowers fade from violet blue, to lavender, to pink and white as they age. It is a splendid sight to see bunches of these differently shaded flowers in full bloom. This is a huge bush that can become a tree, it has luxuriant green foliage; but unforunately, it is short lived. The star shaped flowers are big and attractive. This shrub needs a lot of sunshine to bloom in abundance.
“Flowers are words Which even a babe may understand.”- Bishop Arthur Cleveland Coxe
The oleander (Nerium oleander) is an evergreen shrub. The are numerable varieties of oleanders. It is so easy to grow them in the hot climates. Used as an offering for God's, the Hindus consider this plant as an essential part of their garden. These hardy plants can grow in any kind of soil, needing very little water and plenty of sunshine. They are attractive an option in the corners of gardens or even as hedges.
Calliandra surinamensis - Powderpuff
The powderpuff plant is a medium sized shrub, if pruned and kept well. In full bloom, it has hundreds of pink flowers like powderpuff; from which it gets its name. They come in light pink to rather dark reds. They grow well in moderate climates and need very little care.
The red berry tree
I don't know what this is, all my attempts to find the name of this tree did not produce results. This is a huge tree 20 - 30 feet high; in early spring it is filled with these cherry red fruits, with fleshy skins that open wide to reveal black seeds. It was the sound of parrots that got my attention to this tree. The parrots seem to be feasting on the fruits and making merry on its branches. A stunner by all standards, this tree vied for attention among the flowers in this hub.
“Fair flowers that are not gather'd in their prime rot and consume themselves in little time.” - William Shakespeare
The camel foot tree or 'Bauhinia' as it is called in India is a small tree that grows upto 20 feet in height. Its flowers are brilliant and make your garden look spectacular in season. It is also called the poor man;s orchid. These trees add to the beauty of the Garden city - Bangalore.
Golden beauties
Cassia alata or Senna alata , these golden candle sticks as they are known, stole my heart. As I traveled to a near by town, I saw hundreds upon hundreds, of these plants flowering in abundance and I could not proceed further, until I stood and admired them for some time and got them forever immortalized in this hub. These golden beauties lined the sides of the roads making my trip so wonderful. This is also called the Ringworm Bush because of its very effective fungicidal properties, for treating ringworm and other fungal infections of the skin.
Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas easily the favourites on my window sill. These are finicky plants and cannot stand too much sun that we are bound to have in these parts of the world. Hydrangeas also turn color as they age, the fresh blooms are rather greenish, they turn violet blue, then pink and slowly fade. These spectacular flowers bring to me hundreds of beautiful memories of this city that I have adopted. I was ready to pack my bags and leave, as I entered the lobby of the hostel where I lived, I took one look at these flowers and changed my mind. This city Bangalore has since then been the hub of my life.
Anthurium
Anthuriums red, pink and white has always had an important place in any flower arrangement that I come up with. That red heart never fails to make an impression. I have had great luck with anturiums, they have always yielded enough flowers to make me happy. Just a couple of anthuriums are enough to brighten up a room. a few twigs and some coconut fiber, artistically arranged can make my day!
Faery Songs
Shed no tear! O shed no tear! The flower will bloom another year.Weep no more! O weep no more!Young buds sleep in the root's white core. - John Keats
Geraniums, pink, purple, white, red, oranges are all a joy to have in your garden. These simple to grow plants are my all time favorites. I have a huge collection of them and they are the best antidepressants that you will ever find. The fragrant leaves, the colorful bloom clusters fill my heart with joy anytime. I hope you enjoyed the beautiful flowers from my garden and my city the way I do. It is the flora and fauna of each place, that makes a place special. Bangalore will always be special to me.

You just made my day with these beautiful pictures. Thanks so much for putting this hub together. It seems like this winter has gone on forever. I love all the flowers but one of my favorites is the Anthurium. They almost look fake and plastic. I like the tropical look to them. Thanks for making me smile:)
Oh wow, sofs. These flowers are positively exotic, compared to what we can grow in Canada. I'm so jealous. You're getting really good with the camera too. Nice going buddy. :)
This just made my day brighter ( It's cloudy outside ) I love flowers. I had lots of hydrangeas at my old home, all colors. I will plant more here in my new home. I want a Potato tree, where do you buy one? Thank you. Your photography is beautiful.
Thank you for answering my question, i'm thinking it might not be warm enough here in Illinois for the potato tree, but i will check it out.
Cheers-God Bless

Hi sofs. The photos are amazing! Did you took the shots? It's really wonderful. I like that way you angle them.
Hey sofs! Just thought of checking some of hubs here. Just wondering, looks like you're into photography right? I wonder what camera are you using to take all of these beautiful shots. Among these pictures, what I like most is the 1st one on top. The one with a grasshopper? Not sure if I'm right lol Overall, you did great shots!
I am a new to HubPages and also am a novice photographer. Your hub inspired me to post my bird photos. Great photos.
Beautiful photos - I miss seeing flowers from warmer climes (we have gorgeous flowers up here in the north, but I miss my the flora of Southern California). Just a random guess, but could the mystery berries be those of a Lilly Pilly tree? Parrots like those berries...
This was beautiful and a wonderful treat at the start of winter. Photos were stunning and I loved the accompanying quotes.
Voted up, useful, awesome, beautiful and interesting.

Beautiful flowers and beautiful hub! I absolutely love the 'potato tree' flowers... I would love to see them in person and photograph them myself, I could just picture myself going crazy with my camera over such beauties... I love that their color fades as they age! Thanks for sharing!
