Fantasy world

We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion.

The great task in life is to find reality.

I have a dream that goes on and on,

A waking dream, a slumber dream,

A dream like a raging fire,

My hearts only desire.

Seemingly caught in a gust of wind,

Spinning and twirling me around,

Flashes of color and distant scenes,

Moving faster than I can glean

I like nonsense -- it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope... and that enables you to laugh at all of life's realities. Dr. Seuss

Quicker paced and multi hued,

Than this drab and dreary world I know.

Pleasure filled and beckoning,

Tantalizing, magical fantasy.

I long, I yearn, I imagine,

To know what is in store for me,

That burning urge that chills the spine,

To make this dream forever mine!

A peek, a glance is all I seek,

Into that alluring threshold,

While my life goes by unnoticed,

Half lived and forsaken.

This mystery that has me bedazzled,

Blinded and bound me in its power,

Its tentacles about me, wind,

I am crazed, in my desire.

Longing, aching, never sleeping,

Tossing and turning around,

The love of my life here is weeping,

Bitter tears abound.

Life went on and so did love,

Still chasing after my dream,

Knowing not my loss, I walk in a daze,

In a delusional feel.

Reality strikes a solid blow,

Like ice upon my sleep warmed face,

Half my life has gone me by.

I awaken from my daze.

My life, a still born child,

Ended before it began,

Never moved around or made a sound,

Unheard, unseen, undone.

Never give up, I tell myself,

It is not yet time to die,

It is a huge world out there,

There is yet hope.

Picking up the bits, I trudge along,

Puzzling the pieces together,

The words of my mother ring in my ears,

“Don’t fly away on a feather!”

This Poem is intended to potray the day dreamy, hazy , fantasy world of some young people, living in that twilight word between dreams and reality.

Thoughts have tremendous power; we can either create or destroy with that power. It is important to control and channelize this energy in the right direction. Dreams by themselves are not wasteful; some great works of art or literature have been birthed there.   In order to harness our thought processes productively we need to learn to program our minds. We become successful individuals when we drive our thoughts and emotions insted of them driving us!!

If dreams are your power bases,  dream on.. make a vision... make it work..

This is a lovely piece on dreams and goals. Your words, your graphics, and your quotes are beautiful. As a world-class dreamer, I especially connect to what you say about the power of thoughts to create or destroy, and the need to control our thoughts and emotions, rather than the other way around, if we want to be productive. Very wise indeed. Keep thinking and dreaming. Many thanks.

Sofs,

Beautiful poem. Dreams hold a special place in my heart. It began my craft/art.

My favorite stanza was:

"I long, I yearn, I imagine,

To know what is in store for me,

That burning urge that chills the spine,

To make this dream forever mine!"

When I read sublime art, I get shivers down my spine. It's like my brain gets an overload of emotions... and I never grow tired of it.

Thanks for sharing this,

Dan

Daniel, this is sending shivers down my spine, shivers of a pleasant kind. I really want to thank you from the very depth of my heart,as I can feel this has come from the depth of yours. This is wonderful, actually I am a little lost for words. It means a lot to me! (This is my very first poem after a gap of 20 years!!)

The power of dreams.. I have written my best poetry work in a dream state lol; but it has to do with rest over clarity more than fantasy. Nice work Sofs.. Cheers.. poetry works well for you.

The strange rambling of the mind is always interesting, and it has a life of its own, it needs to be tethered and driven to engage in productive work, that's what I tried to do. Glad you liked this, thank you A horse back and God bless!

Where do you think my stuff comes from anyway. Sometimes I have the need to get up in the wee hours and write. Lovely. yes.

Hi ralwus, (walrus) Yup, I guess it comes from the same place, but I am too lazy to get up and write in the night though it runs amok! It always comes back to you!! More than the thoughts I feel the emotions fill up and are ready to break loose and thats when you have to get hand to keyboard!! IT is wonderful to have you back here!! THank You!!

Super poem. I wish I'd read it ten years ago. It might have woke me up abit! Dreaming, or living out a wish for a particular life can seem rewarding at the time, but if you/I etc. don't start to and keep working to reach these goals (aka. dreams) then we may one day wake up to find the actual chance/s passed by some time ago.

the saying 'procrastination is the theif of time' comes to mind.

Keep writing.

Hi John! You have summed it up so well! I wish I had written it a decade ago myself wouldn't have wasted a lot of time... but the beauty lies in being able to learn from every situation and picking yourself up and carrying on.... not mourning over what is lost

This is a very personal sort of poem you have shared, but that’s what makes the craft unique and loved. It is interesting how often pain produces beauty. I enjoyed this, thank you.

sofs Hub Author 19 months ago

Jason, this is not so much personal, as it a common experience of those who live in a dream and cannot grasp or enjoy the here and the now. How great a part of our lives passes us by while we chase deluding dreams...Thanks Jason for visiting and letting me know that you did enjoy your visit. God bless you!!
