77Summer flowers - nature pics
Could there be a more pleasant way of spending a summer afternoon? For me it was heaven on earth. Sounds so cliche'd - doesn't it? Not when you see what I got to see. I had to spend much time trying to get the bees, the butterflies and the grasshoppers to pose for me as I would have liked them to appear, but it was worth it, at least for me. I never cease to be in awe and wonder of nature and her beauty and the best that I can come to appreciating them is get them on my camera and show it off to the world. I am not the best of photographers, but I have tried my best here. Nonetheless I couldn't think of a better way of spending an afternoon. I hope this brings you as much joy as it did to me.
All Pictures belong to sofs and are not to be copied. I would truly appreciate if you just enjoy them here and come back for more if you like it so much.
This is my best shot yet.. I had to be on my hands and feet to get this, but I can tell you that this Indian white tiger butterfly made my day. Spectacular are the marking on the butterfly and I haven't seen it in these parts for quite some time. If I could make a hub around one photograph this would be it. I was so thrilled, I have that image stored in my mind and it becomes my peace manthra.
These Peacock flowers or as they are sometimes called the Pride of Hawaii has always captivated my imagination. As a child I would pluck the double shaded brillant flowers and wear them above my ears in my long black hair. I would strut around with pride, just having the flower on my person. Now I understand why it is called the peacock flower. They come in four shades, plain yellows, orange and yellow, red and yellow as these here on the photograph and the dark pink and white ones. They look as exotic as orchids and yet you will find them planted all the way along the national highways of India.
This Blue butterfly had me dancing try to capture it on camera. The brilliant blue looked heavenly under the blazing Indian summer sun. But I think that this butterfly would put the sunshine to shame any day. Getting a decent shot was tiring, with all my effort this was all I could get .
Gold Digger. This gold butterfly just stole my heart. It was flitting in the sun shimmering like gold. This shot made me feel like a million dollars. I haven't seen these butterflies since I was a child. I hope they are coming back in numbers.
The passion flower is a rare sight here. These flowers get hidden under the thick foliage and often the beauty of these delicate flowers are crowded out. The deep purple of the petals and the intricate design of the heart of the flower makes it interesting. Can an afternoon get any better than this? Chug along with me and I will show you more.
This guy was a show off. Restlessness is his name. This green butterfly would not remain in one position for more than a second. After many shots I did mange to capture the color. I hope you can make it out though it is flitting around even as you see it.
Grasshoppers, I once dressed like a grasshopper when I was very little. But this guy is for real. He was so elegantly seated on the flower enjoying the afternoon sun until I came along and disturbed his peace or so he thought. I just admired him.
The white cabbage butterfly. Its wings seemed to be falling apart.. and it was waging wars with the others. Plain Jane you say, but among a bed of hot pink zenias he looked regal like a king .
Another shot of the blue butterfly. Just a wing here just a glimpse now, was all he would afford my camera. Flitting from flower to flower in the afternoon sun he was like a dazzling diamond. Those flitting images have made a strong impression on me to preserve as much of nature as I can to give these delicate beauties a place to be.
The famous Edward rose, just the smell of it is enough to make my mornings bright. The mild but awesome perfume of these flowers are legendary. The petals are used to make a sweet potion that is given as treatment for anemia. Rose water that is obtained from these flowers is used as astringent for the skin a natural cosmetic. Rose water is also widely used in cooking in the Subcontinent.
Red lilies. Indian summers are full of reds, oranges and gold. This bunch of red lilies is from my friend's garden, and she graciously shared them with me. This is the best gift I could ever get, a bunch of blood red lilies. Amazingly beautiful. Thank you R :)
These striped pink lilies are from my garden. During the long gloomy rainy months it is these lilies that provide the color for us. This plant has been with me for years now, and it never fails to bloom in abundance when I need them.
I hope your day has been brightened a little with all these nature pics. Have an awesome day :)

Butterflies and bees (a poem by sofs)
Awash with color,
The garden lies,
Causing a stir,
Are the butterflies!
Flitting around,
From flower to flower,
Where honey abound,
In pollen showers!
Sipping daintily,
Flirting around,
Never a second,
To rest is found.
Fun and games,
Fill your day,
With the wind and bees,
Merrily you play!
Now here now there,
In flashes of color,
Enchanted I stare
At sights so rare.
I longed to trap you,
With my lens,
Before you flew,
Across the fence!
With scraped hands and knees,
I chase you down,
Until I seize you,
In pictured renown!

You said " I am not the best of photographers, but I have tried my best here". Well I feel that you do have the capacity to become the best. I'm not a professional photographer, but I suggest you to concentrate a little more on Image focusing and photo editing.

I dearly love the Passion flower and Edward Rose. I have never seen the Passion flower, do they only grow there? Thank you. you captured some very beautiful pictures.
Wonderful pictures. Honey bees are expert nectar collectors. I've found them many times collecting nectar from flowers. This is a mistery to me how the nectar becomes honey in honeycombs.

Those Peacock flowers are amazing! I can just envision you using them as hair adornments. The passion flower is also stunning as are the roses.
