The first lights of dawn - a poem
63The first lights of dawn
I love to watch the first lights of dawn as it come in shyly, it brings with it the balmy, pure smell of nature and freshness. The air seems so cool and pure. The world around looks so pristine, until the sound of made made things rudely disturb the peace. Nature and all of creation seem to be rejoicing, the birds chirping and singing so gloriously, the squirrels chattering, the bees humming is music to the ears. The flowers dancing in the gentle breeze of dawn and sending their perfume as far as they can reach makes the scene complete.
This is the time of day when the rays of the sun fill you with their goodness, the vitamin D so much need for the absorption of calcium from food. The practice of Surya namaskar has come from this knowledge. It is indeed warmth to the bones and strength to the soul to watch the first lights of dawn!
The first lights of dawn come shyly in,
Through the window, to my sky,
I watch wide eyed and with bated breath,
As she beckons me with her balmy fest,
Sensuously teasing, my sleep worn eyes
Tickling my senses with a touch so light
I feel the thrilling glow under my skin
I spring back to life, from within.
A golden tinge or silver grey,
Now, a fiery orange bright,
Yellow rays are seeping through,
Liquid gold or love’s own hue,
Pink or is it flesh tint?
I just can’t make up my mind,
Such colors in my palette, I can never find.
A surge of warmth comes to my face,
Like a woman held in warm embrace,
Lost in the splendorous rose tinted haze,
Molten lava or flaming copper river,
Scalding my memory, imprinting forever,
Pleasurable moments that send down shivers,
Spellbound by her beauty and her splendor!
The leaves quiver gently and scarcely shake
The enchanted, from his dream like state,
The birds now sing their joyful note,
The squirrels scramble and chatter about,
The green bee eater and Koels loud,
Calling out to their mates so proud,
The eloquent silence of dawn now ends!
The prelude is over, the action begins,
Penetrating rays of the sun have come,
The clouds still float and play around,
In fluffy little stripes, stipples and dots,
The wind chasing them like a lover forlorn,
Vibrant hues, now giving way to,
Cotton tufts floating on brilliant blue.
I now await the even scene,
The ruddy skyscape and palms so green,
The yellow ball of flaming fire,
Extinguished by his own desire.
The pompous floating of the pearly queen,
Upon the carpet of velvety sheen,
I linger on in reverent awe
To drink deeply of beauty’s charm,
I pray that rain clouds will not hide
Your regal beauty and pompous pride,
I rest in hope that each day will bring,
My share of the bliss, your beauty holds
At dawn and dusk and every moment gay,
You hold me captive in your sway!
Hi sofs. Really enjoyed the poem. Nice photos too. Strangely enough, I was also admiring the sunlight streaming into my room as I awoke this morning...and the trees with their leaves starting to change colour, against a clear blue sky. Isn't nature wonderful? :)
